Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County

A total of 10 new lawsuits against insurance companies regarding hurricane damage claims have been filed in Jefferson County District Court during the week of Oct. 5-9, 2009.

The following complaints have been filed:

  • Leonard and Mary Berard of 3424 11th St. in Port Arthur allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association undervalued their claim for damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Berards are represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-098.

  • Ava Distefano of 4210 Ashland Drive in Port Arthur alleges Fire Insurance Exchange denied her claim for roof, water, structural and wind damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Distefano will be represented by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston and by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-088.

  • Maria Escuarda of 3465 Redwood Drive in Beaumont alleges Geovera Specialty Insurance Company denied her claim for roof, water, wind, contents, foundation and structural damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Geovera denied the claim after it assigned ICA Adjusters and adjuster Jade Saucier to investigate. Escuarda will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont.   • Stephanie Hurst, individually and as next friend of Thomas May, and Steven Hurst, of 211 Chicago in Nederland allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association undervalued their claim for damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont will be representing them. Jefferson County District Court case number: E185-097.

  • Donald P. LeGrande of 1270 Glendale St. in Beaumont alleges National Lloyds Insurance Company denied his claim for damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. LeGrande will be represented by Kenneth W. Lewis and Scott Renick of Bush Lewis in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-103.

  • Johnnie Owens of 2540 Burgundy Place in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied his claim for roof, wind, water, structural and contents damages caused after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claim Reggie Warren assigned IMS Catastrophe Services and adjuster Jack Torbett to investigate. Owens will be represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D185-083.

  • Guillermina Reyes of 1025 Sabine Ave. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association undervalued her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Reyes will be represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-067.

  • Ricky and Sylvia Root of 1705 N. 29th St. in Nederland allege Farmers Insurance Exchange denied their claim for roof, water, wind, contents and structural damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Roots will be represented by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston. Jefferson County District Court case number: B185-060.

  • Olivia Watson of 1900 E. Seventh St. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association undervalued her claim for damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Watson will be represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-102.

  • Jerry Ytuarte Sr. and Mary Ytuarte of 397 Patna Drive in Beaumont allege Foremost County Mutual Insurance Company took money from them in premium payments, but did not provide proper coverage for the Ytuartes' property. Because Foremost took the premiums, the Ytuartes claim they deserve money for damages they incurred when Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. They will be represented by Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D185-094.
