100 companies sued over truck driver's asbestos illness

A Vidor couple has filed an asbestos suit against more than 100 corporate defendants, alleging the companies negligently used asbestos insulation on their premises.

Charles Dees and Mary Guidroz filed suit against AMF Incorporated, along with 99 other defendants, in Jefferson County District Court on Nov. 19.

A few of the defendants listed in the suit include BP, A.W. Chesterton and Chevron.

According to the suit, the plaintiff was a truck driver and regularly visited the defendants' premises. The suit does not specify which plaintiff was the truck driver.

However, medical records attached to the suit say Dees, a smoker, had occupational asbestos exposure from 1950 to 1980 and was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2007.

"Throughout the period that plaintiff worked at premises defendants' facilities, premises defendants' facilities were an unsafe place in which to work ... and contained asbestos-containing insulation ... which was sold and manufactured by product defendants," the suit states.

The suit goes on to allege that the defendants failed to test asbestos products and adequately warn workers of the dangers of asbestos.

The plaintiffs are suing for exemplary damages.

The plaintiffs are represented by attorney Glen Morgan of Reaud, Morgan & Quinn.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District, will preside over the case.
