Woman sues to collect $10K due on promissory note

A Jefferson County woman has filed suit against the Louisiana man she claims owes her $10,000.

Rose Brown claims she entered into a promissory note with Robert Miles on Jan. 8, 2009, which called for Miles to pay her $24,000 over the course of one year in payments of $2,000 per month.

According to the complaint filed Dec. 9 in Jefferson County District Court, Brown agreed to release any claims against Miles for the sale of a particular piece of property that was unspecified in the lawsuit.

However, Miles stopped making his monthly payments in July, so Brown accelerated the note on Sept. 20, the suit states.

But Brown still has not received the remaining $10,000 she says Miles owes her.

In addition to the money she says she is due, Brown is seeking pre-judgment interest at the maximum legal rate, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

John Pat Parsons of the Lindsay Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E185-460.
