GALVESTON � A Dickinson woman who is being sued for more than $26,000 arising from credit card charges by her son recently filed an original answer.

Darlene L. Marzouk challenges St. Louis, Mo., resident Matthew G. McMahon's claims that she and Eugene V. McMahon, her ex-husband and the plaintiff's father, incurred the alleged debt.

Matthew G. McMahon filed suit against Marzouk and Eugene V. McMahon last Feb. 14 in Galveston County District Court, stating that his parents racked up numerous charges for which they refused to pay.

The defendants divorced last year. During the course of their marriage, they went into debt, including property taxes, the suit claims.

The younger McMahon explains that the defendants approached him about using his four separate low-interest credit cards. He acquiesced, and the parties entered into an agreement in which the parents promised to pay all charges and indemnify the younger McMahon, according to the original complaint.

It adds his parents accumulated a total of $13,000 in charges on two Citi cards while $10,000 was put on a pair of Bank of America cards. Matthew G. McMahon says he was never compensated.

Marzouk contends she did not make any representations to the plaintiff that she would pay for any charges on his credit cards. She accuses him and her co-defendant of attempting to re-litigate matters that were or should have been litigated in the divorce action.

Attorney David J. Salinsky of Houston is representing the plaintiff while attorney James T. Fletcher of Friendswood is serving as counsel to Marzouk.

Galveston County Court at Law No. 2 Judge Barbara Roberts is presiding over the case.
