A Sour Lake woman has filed suit against the driver she claims caused her deceased husband to sustain life-threatening injuries.

Marilyn Terry Standridge claims her husband, Tommy Standridge Jr., was driving south on Main Street in Beaumont and crossing the intersection with Magazine Street on April 24, 2008, when defendant David Allen Scott, who was driving east on Magazine Street, struck him.

"Defendant had failed to stop at the stop sign and failed to yield the right-of-way to Plaintiff as required by law," the suit filed Jan. 11 in Jefferson County District Court states. "As a result of this failure, an accident occurred, causing serious, life-threatening injuries to Plaintiff, Tommy A. Standridge Jr."

Because of the accident, Tommy Standridge suffered physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment and a reduction in his earning capacity and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. Tommy Standridge died on Dec. 11, 2008, the complaint says.

Because of her husband's death, Marilyn Standridge claims she has lost his affection, solace, comfort, companionship, society and assistance and lost household services.

Marilyn Standridge is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus other relief to which she may be entitled.

Michael R. McGown of Benckenstein, Norvell and Nathan in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
