Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County

A total of 10 new lawsuits against insurance companies regarding hurricane damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court, Jan. 4-15, 2010.

The following complaints were filed:

  • George and Sandra Bullington of 1822 Broadway Ave. in Beaumont allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association underpaid their claim for wind damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Bullingtons will be represented by John S. Morgan of Harris, Duesler and Hatfield in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D185-634.

  • Jose Figueroa alleges Zuliema Escobedo, an employee of Escobedo's Insurance, failed to procure a homeowner's policy for him, even though he tendered payment for the policy. Figueroa only discovered he didn't have wind insurance after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008, and damaged his home, according to the complaint. Now, Figueroa says he is unable to receive compensation for damages caused to his home. Figueroa will be represented by John Pat Parsons of Lindsay Law Firm in Beaumont.   • Herman Haynes of 4805 Beck Drive in Beaumont alleges Liberty Lloyds of Texas Insurance Company denied his claim for roof damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Liberty Lloyds denied the claim after it assigned adjuster Lee Anthony Pahmiyer to investigate. Haynes will be represented by Richard L. Plezia of Richard L. Plezia and Associates in Houston and by John C. Grazier of Grazier and Associates in Houston. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-715.

  • Jimmy Hendon and Edwin A. Johnsen of 2396 Sandpiper Lane in Crystal Beach and of 3292 Pride's Way in Crystal Beach allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association has failed to refund them their insurance premiums they paid for their beach houses, which were destroyed after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Hendon and Johnsen will be represented by Mitchell A. Toups of Weller, Green, Toups and Terrell of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B185-719.

  • Charles and Connie Hermsen of 4048 Jean Ave. in Port Arthur allege Fire Insurance Exchange denied their claim for roof, water, wind and structural damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Hermsens will be represented by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston and by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont.   • Margaret Hilstock of 5726 Grant Ave. in Port Arthur alleges Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Company denied her claim for damages to her property caused after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Capitol denied the claim after it assigned adjuster Teka Cherry to investigate, according to the complaint. Hilstock will be represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont.   • Theda Reisner of 9847 El Chaco St. in Beaumont alleges Texas Farm Bureau Underwriters denied his claim for roof damages after caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Reisner will be represented by Richard L. Plezia of Richard L. Plezia and Associates in Houston and by John C. Grazier of Grazier and Associates in Houston. Jefferson County District Court case number: A185-714.

  • James and Samantha Robinson of 2290 Washington Blvd. in Beaumont allege National Lloyds Insurance Company denied their claim for roof, water, wind, foundation and structural damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. National Lloyds denied the Robinsons' claims after it assigned Compass Adjusting Services and adjusters Don Hrna, Lynnie Roberts, Randy Hunter and Michael Vieregg to investigate, according to the complaint. The Robinsons will be represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and by James R. Dunnam of Dunnam and Dunnam in Waco. Jefferson County District Court case number: E185-562.

  • Punarbassi Sandy and Indra Dwarkanauth of 1448 Seventh St. in Port Arthur allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for roof, wind, water, structural and contents damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. TWIA denied the claim after it assigned adjuster Brandon Beavers to investigate, according to the complaint. Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing them.   • Jo Ann Thomas of 2249 East 11th St. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for roof, water, wind, foundation and structural damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. TWIA denied the claim after it assigned Sabine Claims Services and All-Tech Claims Management and adjusters Luther Waldrop and Mike Daniels to investigate, according to the complaint. Thomas will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D185-698.
