Credit card company sues local woman for unpaid balance

A credit card company has filed suit against a Beaumont woman it claims has failed to pay the balance due on her account.

FIA Card Services claims Barbara Caldwell racked up $12,342.50 worth of credit card debt, but failed to make payments beginning on Aug. 25.

FIA sent a letter to Caldwell demanding payment, but she has refused to release any money to the company, according to the complaint filed Feb. 22 in Jefferson County District Court.

In the three-count suit, FIA is seeking the money it says Caldwell owes it, plus pre-judgment interest, attorneys' fees of at least $2,468.50, costs, post-judgment interest and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Michael J. Scott, Teri Stewart Mace and Judith Morgan of Carrollton will be representing it.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D186-090.
