Man sued by bank over credit card balance

A credit card company has filed suit against a Beaumont man who it claims has failed to pay the balance due on his credit card.

Capital One Bank claims Harley G. Shofner racked up $14,369.85 worth of credit card debt, but failed to make payments beginning on June 15.

Capital One sent a letter to Shofner demanding payment, but he has refused to release any money to the company, according to the complaint filed Feb. 22 in Jefferson County District Court.

In the three-count suit, Capital One is seeking the money it says Shofner owes it, plus pre-judgment interest at 23.1 percent per annum, attorneys' fees of at least $5,657.65, costs, post-judgment interest at 18 percent per annum and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Michael J. Scott, Teri Stewart Mace and Judith Morgan of Carrollton will be representing it.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D186-091.
