Woman struck by object at Wal-Mart, sues

A Jefferson County woman claims she suffered serious personal injuries after an object at Wal-Mart fell on her.

Brenda Jackson filed a lawsuit March 30 in Jefferson County District Court against Wal-Mart Stores Texas.

Jackson claims she patronized the Wal-Mart located at 4999 Twin City Highway in Port Arthur when an object fell on her. The suit does not provide details about the incident.

Because of the incident, Jackson lost earnings and her earning capacity, experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and sustained physical impairment and physical disfigurement, according to the complaint. In addition, she lost her ability to enjoy life, the suit states.

She blames Wal-Mart for causing her injuries, saying they negligently failed to provide her with a safe environment, failed to inspect the work site to ensure its safety and failed to remedy the condition on the premises.

Jackson seeks a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs, attorney's fees and other relief the court deems just.

J. Trenton Bond of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-427.
