A Chambers County woman claims she incurred medical costs after a driver struck the vehicle in which she rode as a passenger.

Kami Foreman filed a lawsuit April 12 in Jefferson County District Court against Debbie Lynn Luquette.

Foreman claims she rode in a vehicle traveling on Dowlen Road in Beaumont on Jan. 19, 2009, when Luquette suddenly failed to control her speed and struck the automobile in which Foreman rode.

Because of the collision, Foreman lost earnings and her earning capacity and suffered physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment and physical disfigurement, according to the complaint.

She blames Luquette for causing the collision, saying she failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to maintain proper control of her vehicle, failed to give appropriate attention to the operation of the vehicle, failed to control her speed, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to take evasive action and failed to use the same care an ordinary person would have.

Foreman seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

John M. Lane of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: A186-533.
