Credit card company sues resident to recover $25,000 debt

A credit card company has filed suit against a Beaumont resident it claims failed to pay more than $25,000 in charges.

FIA Card Services claims it issued a credit card to Terry W. Chilton. Since then, Chilton has stopped making payments on the card despite FIA's attempts to collect the money, according to the complaint filed April 15 in Jefferson County District Court.

"As of March 11, 2010, there continues to be owed by the Defendant to the Plaintiff an unpaid principal balance of $26,850.91 and accrued interest of $0.00," the suit states.

In addition to the money it says it is owed, FIA seeks pre-judgment interest, attorney's fees of $5,370.18, costs, post-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law and other relief the court deems just.

Michael J. Scott, Teri Stewart Mace and Judith Morgan of Carrollton will be representing it.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: A186-551.
