Two Beaumont residents have filed suit against the driver who they claim struck them when she drove on the wrong side of the road.

Sharon Fontenot, individually and as next friend of minor Dominica Briggs, and Megan Boyett, individually and as next friend of Darryn Bourque, filed a lawsuit April 16 in Jefferson County District Court against Debrah Adams.

The plaintiffs claim they were traveling east on Old Sour Lake Road in Beaumont on May 15, 2009, when Adams suddenly drove on the wrong side of the road, causing a collision.

Because of the collision, the plaintiffs sustained injuries; incurred medical costs; and experienced extreme physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment; according to the complaint.

Adams negligently failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes and drove on the wrong side of the road, the suit states.

The plaintiffs are seeking a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus interest, costs and other relief to which they may be entitled.

They will be represented by James E. Payne and Jennifer Job Seale of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
