GALVESTON - A Louisiana seaman who claims he hurt his back and neck two months ago after he fell on a pipe has filed a lawsuit against his employer.
Brian Collins of Houma, La. accuses Supreme Offshore Services Inc. of not warning him about the state of a cubby hole on the supply boat to which he was assigned.
The suit was filed Apr. 23 in Galveston County Court No. 3.
Collins explains that on Feb. 26 he stepped through the cubby hole and his foot hit a flashlight that had been apparently left on the ground.
"The plaintiff could not see the flashlight beforehand as the cubby hole blocked his view of the ground," the suit says.
"He lost his footing and fell on a pipe... (and)injured his back and neck as a result of the fall."
Consequently, Collins seeks damages for physical pain, mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses. He is demanding a trial by jury.
Houston attorneys Kurt B. Arnold and M. Paul Skrabanek are representing the plaintiff.
Galveston County Court No. 3 Judge Roy Quintanilla is presiding over the case.
