Cardinal Drive crash leads to suit

A Chambers County woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to control her speed, crashing into the rear of a vehicle in which the woman rode.

Anna Lalonde claims she was riding in a vehicle Carvelynne Graff was driving on Cardinal Drive in Beaumont on June 23, 2008, when defendant Amy Broussard, who was driving a vehicle insured by defendant Weldon Broussard, failed to control her speed and slammed into the rear of Graff's vehicle.

Because of the accident, Lalonde incurred medical costs, lost earnings and her earning capacity, suffered physical impairment and physical pain and endured mental anguish, according to the complaint filed May 17 in Jefferson County District Court.

Lalonde blames Broussard for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes to avoid the collision and failed to control her speed.

In her complaint, Lalonde is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont will be representing her.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-882.
