A Winnie woman claims she suffered multiple injuries after she tripped and fell over boxes while shopping in a furniture store.
Carolyn Hudson filed a lawsuit May 17 in Jefferson County District Court against Bruce Ibach and A.J.'s Inc., doing business as American Bedroom.
Hudson claims she visited American Bedroom on June 10 to shop for furniture.
"At the entrance of the business was a piece of furniture being put together with the remnants of the cardboard boxes laying unattended in the pathway of aisles for furniture shopping," the suit states. "Plaintiff tripped over the boxes while attempting to view furniture for possible purchase."
Because of her fall, Hudson suffered injuries to her left knee, right wrist, right elbow, right shoulder, forehead, right hip, neck and her body in general, the complaint says.
In addition, she claims she incurred medical costs of $9,435.25, will incur additional medical expenses and has suffered physical pain and mental anguish.
She blames American Bedroom for failing to provide her proper warnings of a hazardous condition, for failing to warn her of the presence of dangerous conditions, for creating a dangerous condition, for failing to correct the dangerous conditions and for failing to warn her to take care.
Hudson seeks a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal rate, actual damages and other relief to which she may be entitled.
David J. LaRue of Loncar and Associates in Beaumont will be representing Hudson.
The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
