Hair remover malfunction leads to suit against cosmetic center

A woman has filed suit against a surgical cosmetic center, alleging she sustained a scar on her upper lip after employees at the center used an improperly functioning machine to perform hair removal.

Brandi Dyson claims she visited Surgical, Cosmetic, and Weight Loss Centers of America on May 22, 2008, to have a hair-removal procedure.

"Defendant was aware that the machine was not working properly prior to performing the procedure and proceeding [sic] to perform the procedure nevertheless," the suit states. "Immediately following the procedure, a scar developed on plaintiff's upper lip in the area where the procedure was performed."

Because of the incident, Dyson incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

She alleges negligence and gross negligence against the center.

In her complaint, Dyson is seeking actual and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Danny R. Scott Jr. of Beaumont will be representing her.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-920.
