A woman claims a wheelbarrow left in the middle of the road caused multiple accidents.

Theresa Corley filed a lawsuit June 24 in Jefferson County District Court against Diana Click.

Corley claims she drove in the 2800 block of the Eastex Freeway in Beaumont on Sept. 26, 2009, when a driver in front of her, defendant Diana Click, attempted to swerve to avoid a wheelbarrow in the road. Instead of hitting the wheelbarrow, Click struck a vehicle driven by Michael Potts, according to the complaint.

"As the Plaintiff tried to swerve away from the wreck caused by the Defendant, Plaintiff was involved in a collision which resulted in the injuries and damages complained of herein," the suit states.

Because of the collision, Corley incurred medical costs; experienced physical pain, suffering, physical impairment and mental anguish; and lost her earnings, the complaint says.

Corley blames Click for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a lookout and caused the collision by taking faulty evasive action.

Corley seeks a judgment for damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Brett S. Thomas of Roebuck, Thomas, Roebuck and Adams in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B187-131.
