Suit blames BP for worker's asbestos exposure

GALVESTON - Everett and Cheryl Cannon have filed suit against BP Corp. North America Inc. after Everett Cannon was diagnosed with lung cancer more than a month ago.

The Cannons allege that Everett Cannon's illness was a result of lengthy exposure to asbestos during his nine-year stint as an employee of Amoco Oil, predecessor to BP. The lawsuit was filed Sept. 23 in Galveston County District Court.

Everett Cannon worked for the defendant from approximately 1967 to 1976. His cancer diagnosis was made on Aug. 23.

The suit faults BP for Amoco's reportedly improper supervision of operations at the facility where Everett Cannon worked in addition to the company's supposed knowledge that its asbestos-laced products presented a dangerous health risk.

Consequently, the plaintiffs seek unspecified monetary damages as well as a jury trial.

Heard, Robins, Cloud & Black L.L.P. is representing the Cannons, and Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Susan Criss is presiding over the case.
