Woman files malpractice suit against deceased doctor

Alleging two surgeries performed two years ago left her permanently injured, Linda Dowell has filed suit against the late Dr. Caril Shrontz.

The suit was filed Oct. 11 in Jefferson County District Court. The suit also names Medical Opinions and the executrix of Dr. Shrontz's estate, Laurel Shrontz, as defendants.

Prior to his death, Dr. Shrontz performed two surgeries on Dowell. The first surgery was performed on July 29, 2008, and the second on Oct. 20, 2008, according to the petition.

Dowell's suit does not state what type of surgery she underwent or why she needed the surgery. The suit does not even say what acts of negligence Dr. Shrontz allegedly committed.

The suit only states that "when this case is tried the evidence will show ... Dr. Shrontz fell below the standard of care and was negligent in his treatment."

At the time of the surgeries, Dr. Shrontz was employed by defendant Medical Opinions, court papers say.

The suit does not state when he died.

Dowell is suing for her alleged past and future mental anguish, medical expenses and impairment.

She is represented by Houston attorney Craig Lewis.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
