A Galveston seaman, who claims he slipped in some water while boarding a vessel, has filed a $5 million lawsuit against Phil Guilbeau Offshore.

Alleging the vessel lacked sufficient lighting for safe boarding, John Therrell filed his suit Oct. 28 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the suit, on Sept. 13 Therrell was boarding the Lucas John vessel when he slipped on water that had pooled on the deck.

He claims he suffered severe injuries to his lower back, hip, left leg and right knee.

In his suit, Therrell alleges Phil Guilbeau Offshore's vessel was improperly lighted and tied to the dock.

He is suing for $5 million, plus his alleged mental anguish, lost wages and medical expenses.

Therrell is represented by Galveston attorney Anthony Buzbee.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
