Three women sue over auto collision

Three Jefferson County residents claim they lost earnings and their earning capacities after a driver collided with the vehicle in which they rode.

Karenton Parker, Dora Lockett and Ashlyn Lockett filed a lawsuit Oct. 28 in Jefferson County District Court against Humberto Villarreal.

The plaintiffs claim Parker drove a vehicle in Jefferson County on May 12, 2009, when Villarreal suddenly struck the vehicle. At the time of the collision, the Locketts rode as passengers in Parker's vehicle, according to the complaint.

Because of the collision, the plaintiffs incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain, physical impairment and disfigurement, the suit states.

They blame Villarreal for causing the accident, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to apply his brakes, failed to drive safely and failed to obey traffic laws. In addition, he failed to stop for a traffic light and failed to control his speed, the complaint says.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs seek a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Michael L. Phifer of The Phifer Law Firm in Houston will be representing them.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
