Security Company sued for $1.8 million after thieves disarm security system

SHERMAN - A Texas security company is being sued after thieves were able to disarm the main and back-up security systems in a Plano warehouse and steal $1.85 million in electronic inventory.

SED International Holdings Inc. filed suit against JennCom Security on Nov. 16 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.

In August 2009, SED operated a warehouse on 10th Street in Plano for the storage and distribution of electronic inventory and parts including laptops, televisions and computer hardware. According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 16, 2009, the warehouse was burglarized.

The plaintiff states it had retained Ackerman Security Systems to install a security system and provide monitoring services to protect the warehouse premises. Ackerman used JennCom to do the installation of used equipment that had been removed from SED's former warehouse.

The security system featured a concealed radio controlled back-up system designed to alert Ackerman personnel and law enforcement if the primary panel was disabled in a in an attempted break-in.

SED states JennCom re-installed the back-up security system in a clearly visible location approximately 6 inches away from the main security control board, in clear view of any intruders.

After the break-in, investigators discovered that both the main security system and the back-up system had been disabled.

The defendant is accused of negligence for failing to properly install and inspect the SED Security System.

The plaintiff is asking for an award of $1.85 million in damages for damage and loss of electronics products and inventory, damage to real property, loss of profits, incurred expenses and interest.

SED International is represented by John C. Hart and Newton J. Jones of Brown, Dean, Wiseman, Proctor, Hart & Howell in Fort Worth.
