Trip-and-fall filed against Art Museum of Southeast Texas, second in six months

Art Museum of Southeast Texas

Beaumont resident Geraldine Beckett has filed suit against the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, alleging she tripped over an uneven surface at the museum's entrance.

This is the second trip-and-fall suit to be filed against the museum in the past six months.

As the Southeast Texas Record previously reported, on May 28 Mary Petty sued the museum, claiming she was attending a function to view an art collection when she tripped over a raised cement lip.

Six months later, Beckett filed a similar suit Nov. 29 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, on May 5, 2009, Beckett visited the museum for an exhibition event. As she traversed the entrance, she allegedly tripped over "uneven payment."

In her suit, Beckett alleges the museum failed to maintain the flooring area and warn the visiting public of the dangerous condition.

Beckett is suing for past and future medical expenses, pain, mental anguish, impairment and disfigurement.

She is represented by Beaumont attorney Kent Johns.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. B188-870
