Lane change caused wreck, suit claims

A Jefferson County woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims caused a collision when she attempted to switch lanes.

Lauren Lewis Daigle claims she was driving on Nov. 2 when defendant Mary Hutchinson attempted to switch lanes in front of Daigle, causing the collision.

Because of the accident, Daigle incurred medical costs; experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment; and lost wages and her earning capacity, according to the complaint filed Nov. 23 in Jefferson County District Court.

Hutchinson negligently failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes, failed to yield, failed to maintain a proper distance, failed to turn the vehicle to avoid a collision and failed to sound her horn, the suit states. In addition, she failed to control her speed, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Daigle is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

John S. Morgan of Harris, Duesler and Hatfield in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
