Seeking more than $50,000 in damages, Orange County resident Hugh Tarver recently filed suit against the city of Beaumont, alleging he was rear-ended by a city employee last October.
Tarver filed the suit Dec. 3 in Jefferson County District Court.
Court papers show that on Oct. 28, 2009, Tarver had stopped for traffic at the intersection of Folsom Drive and W. Lucas Drive in Beaumont when he was struck by a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria driven by city employee Jeffery Safar.
The suit does not state if Safar is a member of Beaumont Police Department.
Tarver alleges the city employee negligently failed to control his speed and keep a proper lookout.
He is suing for his alleged past and future mental anguish, impairment, disfigurement, lost wages and medical expenses.
Tarver is represented by Beaumont attorney Jeffrey Chilton of Packard LaPray.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
