A Beaumont man claims he incurred medical costs after a driver failed to yield the right-of-way and collided with him while making a left-hand turn.

Clayton Allen filed a lawsuit Dec. 22 in Jefferson County District Court against Katherine and Carolyn Owens.

Allen claims he drove on Old Dowlen Road in Beaumont on Jan. 28, 2009, when Katherine Owens, who drove a vehicle insured by Carolyn Owens in the opposite direction on Old Dowlen Road, struck him when she failed to yield the right-of-way and attempted to make a left-hand turn.

In addition to his medical costs, Allen lost his earnings and his earning capacity and suffered physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish because of the collision, the suit states. He also incurred property damages, the complaint says.

Allen blames Katherine Owens for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes and failed to yield the right-of-way to an approaching vehicle.

In his complaint, Allen seeks an unspecified judgment, plus other relief the court deems just.

Jonathan Juhan of Beaumont will be representing him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
