Three injured in collision sue driver who sideswiped vehicle

Three Beaumont residents have filed suit against the driver who they claim sideswiped their vehicle, causing them multiple injuries.

Christine Johnson, Shawn Johnson and Shawntel Johnson allege Christine Johnson was driving on U.S. Highway 90 east of Devers on April 18 when defendant Brandon Wilson, who was driving west on the highway, crossed the center line and sideswiped the vehicle.

At the time of the collision, Shawn and Shawntel Johnson were riding as passengers in the vehicle, according to the complaint filed Jan. 5 in Jefferson County District Court.

Because of the accident, the plaintiffs sustained severe neck and back injuries; suffered physical pain, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment; and incurred medical costs, the suit states.

Directly before the collision, Wilson negligently failed to maintain proper control of his vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep the vehicle completely within the right half of the roadway, disregarded the rights of other drivers and violated the laws of the state of Texas by failing to drive in a safe manner, the complaint says.

In their complaint, the Johnsons are seeking actual and exemplary damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Charlton P. Hornsby will be representing them.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
