Women claim negligent attendants caused pile up on Galveston water slide

Faust & Furious water slide at Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark

GALVESTON – Two Pearland women claim that they hurt themselves after going down a water slide at a Galveston waterpark, recent court documents say.

Amanda Lefevre and Priscilla Rawls are suing Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, AN H2O Inc. and Waterpark Management Inc. complaining the defendants' employees misdirected them as they rode the Faust & Furious slide on May 24, 2009.

The suit was filed March 30 in Galveston County District Court.

According to the original petition, the plaintiffs were to embark on the ride upon a park attendant's instructions regarding timing and manner of movement. Rawls proceeded first and was followed by Lefevre. They say the worker only told them to cross their hands and legs.

According to the park website, the tube slide is 312 feet long and begins at a height of 60 feet.

"The attendant did not fulfill his safety responsibilities of properly establishing how long Lefevre was to wait before following Rawls but rather just watched as each departed," the suit says.

Another employee was stationed at the bottom of the Faust & Furious directing outward traffic. The plaintiffs believe the attendant "neither warned Rawls of Lefevre's approach nor otherwise caused Rawls to get out of the way."

"Lefevre struck Rawls, and both of them were injured," the suit says.

Consequently, they sue for physical pain and suffering and mental anguish.

Attorney Mac W. Hancock of Houston is representing the complainants, and Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Wayne Mallia is presiding over the case.
