SHERMAN - After losing his job for allegedly refusing to shave off his goatee, John Scott Lodge filed suit against Unifirst Corp. on April 19 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.

Lodge states he was hired by the defendant in July 2010, with the express consent of his supervisor that he could keep his goatee, which covered up facial scars from an auto accident. About a week into his new job, Lodge was informed that he would have to shave his facial hair before going to training.

When Lodge refused, he claims he was terminated from his position.

Lodge argues the defendant committed age discrimination because one other employee at the defendant's Sherman location had a goatee and was not terminated.

Further, the defendant is accused of unlawful employment practices, violating Lodge's civil rights, misrepresentation and vicarious liability.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of actual damages, damages for mental anguish, punitive damages, attorney's fees, interest and court costs.

Lodge is represented by Sherman attorney Ronald R. Huff.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Schell is assigned to the case.
