A Hemphill man claims he failed to receive pay for one of two jobs he was performing simultaneously.

Pat Godwin, doing business as Pat Godwin Construction, filed a lawsuit May 16 in Jefferson County District Court against Davpat LP, also known as Paradise Oasis.

Godwin claims he was working as business manager for the motel Paradise Oasis when the company fired its motel manager. For 18 months, Godwin assumed 20 extra hours of work per week to fulfill roles as both business manager and motel manager, according to the complaint.

Despite his additional work, Godwin claims he received only $800 per month -- the salary he was paid for his work as business manager alone.

"Defendant refused to pay the amount owed and continues to refuse to pay Plaintiff for his work, for which Plaintiff now sues," the suit states.

In his complaint, Godwin seeks actual damages in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limit of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest at the maximum rate, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Bruce Gregory of Port Neches will be representing him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
