Age discrimination lawsuit filed against Tyler business

MARSHALL - After nearly two decades of employment, a Smith County resident lost her job and has filed a lawsuit claiming she is the victim of age discrimination.

Sue Jeans filed suit against Central Venture, doing business as Central Title Co., on May 24 in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.

Jeans was hired by Smith County Title in Tyler as a clerical office worker in June 1992. Central Title acquired Smith County Title in October 2008. At the age of 69, Jeans was terminated from her position in January.

She accuses her former employer of age discrimination and states she was replaced by a younger employee.

The defendant is accused of having policies and practices of unlawful and systematic age discrimination such as failing to equalize employment conditions and adopting unreasonable, unwarranted standards of employment.

The defendant is also accused of discriminating against Jeans because she filed a workers compensation claim for an on-the-job injury.

The plaintiff is seeking damages for lost back wages, insurance benefits, lost future wages, emotional pain and suffering, inconvenience, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, liquidated damages, emotional distress, embarrassment, severe disappointment, indignation, shame, despair, public humiliation, exemplary damages, attorney's fees, interest and attorney's fees.

Jeans is represented by Tyler attorney William S. Hommel Jr.

A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge T. John Ward is assigned to the case.
