Former Port Arthur Independent School District trustee Julia Samuels, who lost her election bid in May, has filed suit against the Port Arthur Election Administrators and City Secretary Sherry Ballard.

Hoping to overturn the May 14 election results, Samuels filed the suit June 16 in Jefferson County District Court.

In her suit, Samuels complains about the time delay in reporting the election results, which were delivered on May 14 at 11:23 p.m.

She also says she lost her election because "people would not vote" due to their "mistrust" of the voting machines.

On May 17, the Port Arthur News reported Samuels said, "I believe the machines were rigged so I would not win."

Samuels is asking the court to overturn the election and "allow the people of Port Arthur a Fair and Trusted Election, with Dignity and Integrity," the suit states.

"Blood was shed for the opportunity to vote, why other in Election Authority take it lightly."

Samuels is representing herself.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
