GALVESTON Texas City resident Latasha J. Olivares and the city of Texas City recently filed an agreed first motion for continuance and amended docket control order before a local state district court.

Olivares is suing Texas City for wrongful termination from its police department, claiming she was fired because she ended a romantic relationship with her supervisor.

The lawsuit, filed May 6, 2010, in the Galveston County 56th District Court, also alleges that Texas City police subjected her to harassment when she refused to rekindle the relationship.

After being employed by the city four years, Olivares was terminated in January 2009.

The joint motion asks Galveston County 56th District Court Judge Lonnie Cox to continue the case from its present Aug. 22 trial setting and enter a new docket control order.

Court papers filed June 1 state personal issues prevented Olivares from timely answering interrogatories and responding to requests for production served to her last October.

Both parties agree that the city was diligent in attempting to comply with its discovery requests and both sides have agreed to work cooperatively to finish any necessary discovery and trial preparations, court papers state.

The motion requests a three-month continuance.
