Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital

A Hardin County woman has filed suit against multiple medical providers claiming back surgery left her paralyzed.

Barbara Fillingim filed suit against Pine Arbor, Dr. Adnan Jafri and Memorial Herman Baptist Beaumont Hospital on July 6 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that Fillingim was admitted to Baptist with thoracic spine compression fractures on May 3, 2009, and discharged 13 days later.

The suit does not list a specific act of negligence other than that hospital should have provided the appropriate spinal care follow up treatment.

From May 14, 2009, until Aug. 25, 2009, Fillingim received nursing home care from Pine Arbor.

In her suit, Fillingim alleges that the defendants' treatments caused her paralysis and permanent physical and mental disabilities.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Kenneth Lewis of Bush Lewis represents her.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
