A Beaumont woman has filed suit against the driver who struck her as she attempted to cross an intersection.
Rita Faye Davis claims she was crossing the intersection of Lucas and the U.S. 69 Service Road when defendant Snissia Susay Genus-Royal, who was driving a white 2001 Chevrolet Express 3500 van toward the 3900 block of west Lucas, struck her.
Because of the collision, Davis incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and sustained physical impairment, according to the complaint filed July 14 in Jefferson County District Court. She also lost earnings and her earning capacity, suffered disfigurement and mental anguish and incurred property damages, the suit states.
Genus-Royal negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to turn to avoid a collision, failed to keep a safe distance between her vehicle and Davis's, drove too fast and failed to apply her brakes, the complaint says.
At the time of the collision, Genus-Royal was driving a vehicle for defendants Lesha Crawford, Adam D. Crawford and Learning Tree Development Center, Davis claims. The Crawfords and Learning Tree Development Center should never have lent their vehicle to Genus-Royal, a "reckless and incompetent driver," according to the complaint.
In her complaint, Davis seeks a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
