The parents of a minor are suing the Beaumont physician who allegedly botched the child's penile surgery.

Suzanne and Bobby Perry, on behalf of their son Eli, filed suit against Dr. Manuel Maria-Soosai and the Pediatrics Urology Association on July 27 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, the Perrys began to notice Eli was having difficulty urinating in early 2010. After a medical examination, the child was referred to Maria-Soosai, who diagnosed him with a right undescended testicle and narrowing of the opening of the urethra.

In their suit, the Perrys allege that on Feb. 1, 2010, Maria-Soosai fell below the standard of care while operating on Eli by failing to properly suture the resected area and placing an improperly sized catheter.

Eventually, a second catheter was placed and the Perrys began to notice "that the catheter did not look like it was positioned properly."

"Concerned that Dr. Maria-Soosai may have made several mistakes ... the Perrys took Eli back to his pediatrician who was 'shocked' to see Eli's condition ..."

Eli had to be admitted to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston to repair the damage, the suit states.

The plaintiffs allege Maria-Soosai negligently fell below the standard of care and are seeking punitive and exemplary damages.

Houston attorney Craig Lewis represents them.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
