Hoping to recoup its loses, Century Surety Co. is suing Nederland resident Katina Johnson for backing into a gas pump and causing more than $30,000 in damages.

The suit was filed Aug. 11 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that on Aug. 27, 2009, Johnson backed her car into a gas pump at Superstop No. 5 in Port Arthur, costing the insurer of the gas station, Century, $30,209.86 to remedy the damage.

The suit accuses Johnson of negligently failing to keep a proper lookout, striking a stationary object and driver inattention.

Century is for actual damages and all court costs.
