Galveston resident sues body shop over truck repairs

Ewing

GALVESTON - Galveston resident Shelby L. Brantley claims to have paid Texas City mechanic Johnny Washington more than $2,000 for repairs to his vehicle which were not properly made, recent court documents say.

A lawsuit filed Sept. 1 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 2 alleges Washington, doing business as J&C Auto Repair and Body Shop, misrepresented himself as an expert with fixing vehicles.

Brantley brought his 2010 Ford XLT F-150 pickup truck to the defendant for an estimate after being involved in an accident.

Washington quoted the repairs in the amount of $2,931 and Brantley claims he paid the amount in full.

The original petition asserts that the defendant, however, did not complete some repairs while underperforming others.

Washington intentionally misrepresented to Brantley that the frame of the vehicle and its rear passenger side door must be fixed, the suit says.

The additional repairs supposedly increased existing costs as well as took approximately nine months to complete.

Brantley says Washington refused to turn the truck over to him unless he paid an additional $750 for repairs to the door.

The plaintiff turned to another body shop to redo the work, which apparently cost $4,326 to have done properly.

Consequently, he seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorney Jack D. Ewing of League City is representing Brantley.

Galveston County Court at Law No. 2 Judge Barbara Roberts is presiding over the case.
