Journalist still fighting alleged assailant in legal dispute

GALVESTON - Two of the three defendants in a Pasadena journalist's lawsuit recently had claims against them dismissed.

Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner approved the motions for summary judgment submitted by the city of League City and the Hometown Bank of League City, leaving Syed Rashid Bukhari to face Manzoor A. Memon's allegations arising from a chance encounter between the men.

Memon sued the three parties on Sept. 21, alleging Bukhari, a fellow Pakistani, assaulted him in the parking lot of Hometown Bank in March 2010.

The plaintiff claimed both the bank and the League City Police Department failed to help him resolve the situation, alleging both entities sided with Bukhari.

According to the original complaint, Memon was investigating Bukhari for a news story into the man's alleged financial misconduct and was at the bank to obtain information on Bukhari's monetary dealings.

League City's motion states the city is immune from the intentional tort claims and it had no duty to investigate Memon's complaint while Hometown Bank asserted it has no relationship with the plaintiff.
