Would-be groom sues to get engagement ring back from former fiancee

GALVESTON - Claiming Randi G. Crader deceived him during their engagement, Ronald Zavora has filed suit to recover the engagement ring from her.

A lawsuit filed Oct. 18 in Galveston County District Court alleges that Crader reportedly bilked Zamora, a pharmacist, out of more than $50,000 while being unfaithful to him.

According to the lawsuit, Zavora proposed to Crader back in May, and gave her a $13,600 diamond engagement ring from Jared's Jewelers.

Zamora claims Crader convinced him to loan her a total of $58,100 for her living expenses, including miscellaneous expenditures such as mortgage payments, automobile loan payments and even certain amenities for her house.

"Said expenses were above and in excess of the normal meals out, trips out of town and normal gifts one would expect to see during a couple's engagement," the original petition says.

The suit claims Zamora mentioned to Crader that he was quickly going through his savings and all of the money he could borrow to the extent that his credit rating was being significantly lowered.

Crader "unilaterally" terminated their engagement shortly afterwards, according to the plaintiff.

According to the complaint, Zamora claims he eventually learned that Crader had no intentions of marrying him, but was only with him to have access to his money.

"The defendant, in fact, married another within three days of the parties' engagement ending," the suit says.

Zamora apparently tried to retrieve the ring, but Crader refused to turn it over.

She subsequently launched a smear campaign against him on Facebook, labeling him a stalker, the complainant argues.

Crader faces six counts of wrongdoing.

Paul Houston LaValle & Associates is representing the plaintiff.

Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Wayne Mallia is presiding over the case.
