Injury suit says Salvation Army employees not properly trained to mop floors

GALVESTON - Robert Eitel is suing The Salvation Army after he fell from a ladder at its premises in July.

A lawsuit filed Oct. 21 in Galveston County Court at Law No. 2 claims the incident on July 9 left Eitel with a fractured spine and pelvis.

Recent court documents show the plaintiff was working on an extension ladder to replace some pipes at the Salvation Army's property.

Eitel states that one of the defendant's employees or residents was mopping the floor when the mop hit his ladder.

"The plaintiff fell to the ground, fracturing his spine and pelvis," the original petition says.

The Salvation Army is faulted for failing to properly mop the floor, failing to properly train employees to mop the floor, failing to supervise employees, failing to warn of looming danger and failing to properly monitor the work and safety performance of their employees or residents.

According to the suit, the complainant did nothing to bring forth the fall in question.

He sues for physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement and losses of earning capacity and the ability to perform household services.

Matthews & Forester is representing the plaintiff, and Galveston County Court at Law No. 2 Judge Barbara Roberts is presiding over the case.
