Wreck on MLK leads to suit

Two Beaumont residents have filed suit against the driver who they claim rear-ended their vehicle.

Pariss Boykin and Devonion Stelly claim Boykin was driving on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Feb. 13, 2010, when defendant Adrin Micken failed to control his speed and slammed into the back of their vehicle.

Because of the collision, both Boykin and Stelly sustained back injuries and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Dec. 21 in Jefferson County District Court. In addition, they lost their earnings and their earning capacities and experienced physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish, the suit states.

Micken negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply his brakes and failed to control his speed, the complaint says.

In their complaint, Boykin and Stelly are seeking unspecified damages, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Jonathan C. Juhan and J.J. Bragg of Beaumont will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D191-556.
