A Jefferson County man has filed a collective lawsuit against an industrial cleaning service that alleges that many workers were not properly paid.

Claiming violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, James Lee, individually and on behalf of all others similarly situated, filed suit against Veolia ES Industrial Services Inc. on March 19 in the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division.

Lee worked for Veolia from June 2010 through December 2011 as a hydroblaster and was responsible for removing deposits from all types of industrial equipment.

According to the lawsuit, hydroblasters, including Lee, regularly worked in excess of 40 hours per week.

Lee states that hydroblasters were not properly paid for hours worked in excess of 40 hours per workweek. He claims that they were required to attend monthly safety meetings without pay, denied payment for travel time and shop time, docked time for arriving late or leaving early and were denied payment of time worked if a supervisor deemed the time excessive.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for unpaid overtime compensation, liquidated damages, attorney's fees, interest and court costs.

Lee is represented by Melissa Moore and Curt Hesse of Moore & Associates in Houston. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the case.
