HOUSTON - Houston resident Stephanie Wiley has filed suit against McJunkin Red Man Corp. after it allegedly failed to consider her for employment because of her gender and age.

According to a lawsuit filed July 11 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas, the 49-year-old Wiley applied to be a truck driver with the defendant in late 2010 only to be told she "could not do the job" though she was never interviewed nor hired.

Recent court documents show the plaintiff submitted a job application and then was told to turn in another one to a staffing agency.

They state Wiley was scheduled for an interview in the afternoon of Dec. 20, 2010, but the meeting was canceled on the same day.

When the complainant followed up on the status of said interview, she was told that someone would get back to her, and at the same time, was not qualified for the position.

"The effect of the practices has been to deprive the plaintiff of her right to employment free of discrimination and stereotyping because of her sex and age," the original petition says.

Consequently, Wiley seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.
