Suit blames red-light runner for causing downtown crash

A Louisiana woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims was driving too fast through an intersection and struck her vehicle.

Josephine Grubbs claims she was driving west in the 400 block of Wall Street on Feb. 2 when defendant Brittany Beverly, who was driving south in the 700 block of Park Street, drove too fast while approaching a red light and struck Grubbs, who was traveling through the intersection at a green light.

Because of the collision, Grubbs sustained neck and back injuries; incurred medical costs; experienced mental anguish, physical pain, suffering, disability and physical impairment; and lost her enjoyment of life, according to the complaint filed July 19 in Jefferson County District Court.

Beverly negligently failed to control the speed of her vehicle, failed to yield the right-of-way, drove inattentively and drove too fast, the suit states.

In her complaint, Grubbs is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

Clay Dugas and Reginald Blakeley of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.
