In June 2010, Patsy Ann Monson filed suit against Greenlawn Memorial Park, claiming she was thrown from a golf cart driven by one of its employees.

Two years later, on May 15 Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, granted a continuance in the case, removing the case from the June docket and placing it on the October 2012 docket.

Court records show Monson filed the motion for continuance on May 10, stating that she is still recovering from a stroke.

According to the suit, Monson claims a Greenlawn Memorial Park employee was taking her in a golf cart to view a cemetery lot that was for sale in July 2009 when the incident occurred.

"While on the golf cart, Plaintiff was violently thrown from the golf cart, injuring her neck, back, knee and body generally," the suit filed June 23 in Jefferson County District Court states.

In her suit, Monson blames the park for causing her injuries, saying it or its employee negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to drive the golf cart in a safe manner, failed to apply brakes to avoid the collision and drove inattentively.

Monson is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Michael R. McGown of Benckenstein, Norvell and Nathan in Beaumont represents her.
