GALVESTON - A Houston woman has filed suit in response to her husband's death from an on-the-job accident three months ago, recent court documents say.
Claudia Chavez is suing Malin International Ship Repair & Drydock Inc. and Jack A. Clarke Investments CO. after Bryan Anthony Hunt died from injuries he sustained when a roof on which he was working collapsed.
The original petition, filed July 18 in Galveston County District Court, shows that on April 18 Hunt was pressure-washing the roof of the fabrication building at Malin's facility when a rooftop panel gave way and caused the decedent to fall through.
According to the suit, the 60-foot fall caused Hunt to strike his head on a table as he fell to the floor.
Emergency responders transported him to the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he died at 2:12 a.m. the next day.
Hunt's employer, WM Contractor, is not a defendant in the case, but was hired by respondent Jack A. Clarke Investments, doing business as Fred Hartel Co., to waterproof the roof where the incident in question happened.
Malin is faulted for premises liability.
Consequently, Hunt's widow seeks unspecified monetary damages.
She is represented by attorney David L. Hutchins with Midani, Hinkle & Cole in Houston.
Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor is presiding over the case.
