Plano shopping center sued for disability discrimination

Handicapped accessible sign

SHERMAN - In an effort to bring a Plano shopping plaza and a restaurant into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, a disabled woman has filed a lawsuit that claims the areas are discriminating against the disabled through architectural barriers.

Leslie Greer filed suit against Parker Lancers Square and Rock & Mackie, doing business as Sushi Shack, on Aug. 17 in the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division.

Greer suffered a spinal cord injury which resulted in her using a wheelchair for mobility. According to the lawsuit, she attempted to visit the Sushi Shack and was faced with many architectural barriers. She states there was no accessible route to any of the businesses from the public sidewalk and much of the “accessible parking” is not accessible parking, the suit states.

The plaintiff is asking the court to issue an order directing the defendants to make modifications to the center to bring it into compliance with state and federal law and for an award of statutory damages, attorney’s fees and court costs.

Greer is represented by Addison attorney Palmer D. Bailey.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Schell is assigned to the case.
