Three Beaumont residents sue driver for causing collision

Wrecked car3

Three Beaumont residents claim they suffered physical pain and disability after a driver failed to keep a proper lookout and caused a collision.

Laura Harris, Gregorio Cabrera Jr. and Raquel Cabrera filed a lawsuit Oct. 19 in Jefferson County District Court against Gregorio Cabrera.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs claim they experienced mental anguish and suffering, lost earnings and their earning capacities and incurred medical costs. They also suffered physical disfigurement and impairment and incurred property damages, according to the complaint.

They blame Gregorio Cabrera for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast, failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to properly maintain the vehicle, failed to control his speed to prevent an accident and failed to obey traffic laws.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs seek a judgment in the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the legal rate and other relief the court deems just.

Jared Gilthorpe of The Gilthorpe Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing them.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
