Suit: Woman's resistance to sexual harassment resulted in firing from Prairie View A&M

HOUSTON - Prairie View A&M University is alleged to have terminated a Houston woman for resisting sexual harassment, recent court papers say.

Chondra T. Johnson filed a lawsuit against PVAMU on Dec. 10 in Houston federal court, stating the dismissal in question is a form of retaliation against her.

The Waller County-based school hired Johnson as a director of recreation sports in January 2011.

According to the plaintiff, she began to experience a "sexually hostile" work environment shortly after she assumed the position.

The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Kendall Harris, the defendant's Dean of Engineering and a married man, tried to get the claimant to have "a relationship on the side" to which she refused.

After Johnson turned Harris down, the suit says, Dr. Miron Billingsley, the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, "became increasingly hostile" towards the plaintiff, according to the suit.

Billingsley disciplined the complainant as well as defamed her as a "con artist", the suit says.

After serving what the suit shows is a wrongful suspension and scoring an "unjust" rating on her annual performance evaluation, Johnson was fired last April 1.

A jury trial is requested.

Johnson is representing herself.
